Ophrys insectifera

Ophrys insectifera
In Britain O insectifera is associated with damp unimproved calcareous soils in open or occasionally light shady areas; in the south of England it is found in open deciduous woodland and scrub but also in beech woods.

Orders for this orchid will be sent out from late AUGUST. In the north it is found on thin calcareous soils of limestone pavement, chalk pits, former quarries, disused spoil heaps and railways.

It is therefore possible to grow this species both in pots, a garden or meadow situation. It does well in a limestone rockery and on the bank areas of poor meadows.

Plants are normally sent out potteds to customers in the UK. They can normally be sent during the period AUGUST to NOVEMBER after which time growth is such that the rosette may get damaged. Any problems must be reported within 14 days.
