Calanthe striata (sieboldii)

Calanthe striata (sieboldii)
Large plants with numerous stems. This Japanese species is from the lower slopes but does well either in the garden or a pot. It is not quite as hardy as other species but will take minus 5 deg. The yellow/gold flowers appear in the late spring to 35 cm in height; The old leaves often remain until the spring when they should be cut off. They have between 3/6 buds. It can be grown in the garden or in a large pot. If in the garden grow with hostas and ferns in semi-shade. Give winter protection to the pseudo-bulbs by covering with 10 cm of bark. If grown in a pot, ensure the pot is never allowed to dry out. As the plant develops multiple growths will appear. The plant should be divided in the autumn if required. To maximize growth feed regularly with the appropriate fertilizer. These calanthe were bought for spring 2020 sales which did not happen. They have been potted up into one and a half litre pots and are being feed every week. They should make good plants in the future. Because of the change in growing from original nursery to mine the plant do not lways produce the same number of flower spikes in the following year. All plants are fully checked when sent out to ensure quality and they are disease free. Any complaints should be made within 14 days of receipt.

Plants are normally sent out potted to customers in the UK. They can normally be sent during the period JUNE to MARCH. The summer deliveries are plants in fully growth that should flower the following spring.
