Laneside Hardy Orchids extends a warm welcome to customer and visitors old and new. There is also the facebook page under the business name.
Jeff Hutchings has run Laneside for the past 18 years supplying a wide range of hardy terrestrial orchids via this shop or at shows. It is not likely I will be attending many shows until they are fully functioning so recommend people buy online. Please read carefully the information regarding each species offered, especially when plants can be delivered and exactly where plants should be grown. Because of customs changes I am only selling to UK addresses.
Cultural information is in the "About" section at the top of each grouping.
The payment system has been changed since the shop became fully secure. You can either complete your order by using Paypal or complete the order online and then phone Jeff on 01995 605537 to pay by card. All prices are PER TUBER OR RHIZOME.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with us, preferably by email using firstname.lastname@example.org
NEED INFROMATION ON HOW TO GROW SPECIFIC SPECIES OR WHICH GENERA
Firstly, look at the ABOUT ......... at the top of each genera list. If this does not give you the answer Email me on the email@example.com address with your specific questions and I will try to answer them.
Some genera are really perennial plants with the wow factor whilst others grow in specific ways and may not fit into a garden but are better in pots or cold greenhouse.
If the question relates to a specific plant you have then, if possible attach a photograph. This is particularly useful for helping with problems associated with the growth of the plant. Refer to this cultural information when you receive purchases.
Please note these are garden or alpine house species and CANNOT be grown in a house environment. Remember "kindness kills".
WHAT TO GROW IN THE GARDEN DEPENDS ON:
1 What is soil type, pH and quality.
2 What areas are wet or dry? What happens after heavy rain?
3 What are the aspects of the garden?
4 How much sun does each area get?
5 What features are there in the garden - rockery, lawns, etc.
6 What currently grows in the garden?
7 What orchids would enhance your garden?
NOW READ EACH SECTION TO IDENTIFY THOSE GENERA YOU COULD GROW.
WHY NOT ADD NATIVE ORCHIDS TO YOUR LAWN OR MEADOW?
Growing hardy native orchids in a meadow or introducing native orchids to a wildflower lawn requires detailed but simple investigation in order to ensure that the right orchid species are chosen and there is a good chance of survival. There are a number of key elements. Firstly, they only grow in poor soil with fairly sparce vegetation so it would not be sensible to plant into good quality grassland or garden soil. pH of the soil is important. The final choice of species is subject to what species grow naturally in that area.
For a copy of Jeff's "Growing native orchids in meadow or wildflower lawn" email me and I will email a copy to you.
If you want assistance in selecting suitable species for a site please email location, soil pH and photographs of the area. This will enable me to search the BSBI maps to find out what orchids do or did grow in the area; make recommendations on what is needed to be done to the grassland before planting orchids and finally, to make suggestions as to suitable species.
