This American orchid is also known as the Rose Pogonia and is found from Canada down the eastern States of the USA. It grows in damp areas and the edges of bogs.
Pogonia makes a solitary leaf, slender growths and a solitary, good-sized blush to rose-pink orchid flower in summer. The maze of roots are very fine but produce this long slender flower spike.
Grows well in a peaty soil in bog conditions but with good drainage. A bog trough is easy to make with the substrate of river sand and coarse peat covered with a layer of living sphagnum moss.
They require a cold period during the winter so make ideal plants for the UK.
Plants will be sent out potted when dormant from October to March
