Cypripedium guttatum

Cypripedium guttatum
This species is found around the northern hemisphere in very cold areas including Alaska, northern Canada, and Siberia. Because of its cold environment its summer growth period is quite short. It also has a requirement for a long cold period during the winter months. Becoming frozen is advantageous and encourages the plant to come out of the dormancy period. It has an interesting shaped flower on a short stem. Unlike most other cypripediums it has a long thin rhizome with growths at about 15cm intervals. This species grows best in an inorganic mix. The plants are sent out to customers in the UK in two litre pots in a suitable mix which enables the purchaser to either grow the plant in the pot in a cold frame or it can be plunged in the soil in a cold shady spot. Plants are sent out potted to UK customers from OCTOBER TO MARCH whilst the plants are dormant.
