Bletilla striata

Bletilla striata
This is the easiest of the bletilla genus to grow but there have been problems because for a number of years available plants were imported from Japan and often sold as dry pseudo-bulbs which often took at least a couple of yearsto develop and flower for the first time. It comes in a range of colours from pale pink to purplish pink depending on the clone. This species is relatively hardy and grows well in a drained soil in full sun as the plant needs warmth during the summer months to help produce the following years growth. It can also be grown in pots but they need regular repotting as the plant will always grow outwards leaving a bare area in the centre of the pot after about three years.

Plants are normally sent out potted with full growing instructions to customers in the UK. They can normally be sent during the period SEPTEMBER to MARCH whilst the plant is dormant.
