This beautiful native orchid, also known as the Green Winged Orchid used to be found in many meadow situations throughout the country but with changes in agricultural practices is now limited to meadows and other grass areas that have been untouched for decades. A site in Somerset has thousands because the fields have not been fertilized for 50 years and only grazed by sheep for a few weeks in the summer to clean the grass in the same way as mowing and carting away.
Customers have successfully reintroduced this species into their meadows and had the good fortune of having the right mycorhiza to enable seed to germinate and produce a large quantity of new plants.
If grown in pots in an alpine house it should be kept slightly damp at all times to prevent stressing the plant and causing neck rot.
This is a summer dormant species growing through the winter and flowering in May.
Plants are normally sent out potted to customers in the UK. Full growing instructions at the top of this section. They can normally be sent during the period AUGUST to NOVEMBER after which time growth is such that the rosette may get damaged. Plants are fully checked when dispatched. Please notify me of any problems within 14 days of receipt. No refund will be made after this period.
AVAILABLE FROM LATE AUGUST
